More Precious Than Rubies was founded in 2008 by Sarah Boes as a survivor-led, faith-based, nonprofit organization dedicated to reaching, serving, and equipping women and youth who experience and are associated with commercial sexual exploitation and domestic human trafficking.  Our services are based on the interests and needs of survivors.

FACTS

  • The most frequent age of entry into the commercial sex industry in the United States is 12-14 years old.
  • An estimated 1.6 million children run away from home each year in the US.  The average time it takes before a runaway is approached by a trafficker or solicitor is 48 hours.
  • Approximately 55% of girls living on the street in the US engage in formal prostitution
  • After drug dealing, sex trafficking is tied with the illegal arms industry as the second largest and fastest growing criminal industry in the world today.
  • A study of exotic dancers found that 100% had been physically assaulted in the clubs where they were employed, with a prevalence ranging from 3-15 times over the course of their involvement in exotic dancing. Violence included physical assault, attempted vaginal penetration, attempted rape,and rape .
  • It is estimated that for every john arrested for attempting to buy sex, there are up to 50 women in prostitution arrested.
  • Brown County Homeless & Housing Coalition says: Green Bay Schools report 905 homeless children as of 5/25/11 for the 10/11 school year. Of the 905..21 are unsheltered & 150 of the homeless children are unaccompanied youth. Let’s not forget that within 48 hours of hitting the streets, one-third of these children are lured or recruited into the underground world of prostitution and pornography.
  • Between 66-90% of women in the sex industry were sexually abused as children.
  • Up to 75% of street prostituted women are victims of long-term incest.
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in prostituted women, is an average of 69%, the same as war veterans.
  • 70% of men (aged 18-24) visit porn websites in a typical month.
  • 1 in 3 porn viewers are women.
  • The average age at which a child first sees porn is 11.
  • sex buyers often voice aggression toward women, and are nearly eight times as likely as nonbuyers to say they would rape a woman if they could get away with it.
  • 80% of human trafficking cases that exist in WI are sex related.
  • 30 MILLION PEOPLE are trafficked for sex globally EACH YEAR. 3 MILLION of those are CHILDREN and 200,000 of those children are right here in the United States.
  • Victims of trafficking often have a fear of police because they feel that it is their fault that they are in this situation, or are afraid of being deported.  As a survival skill, they often develop loyalties toward their trafficker & try to protect them from authorities.
  • On average, one underage girl brings in $200,000 a year to her trafficker.
  • Prostitution has always been risky for women; the average age of death is 34.
  • Statistically – Every year a prostituted woman is raped 19 times, kidnapped 10 times, and beaten repeatedly.
  • 92% of women engaged in prostitution say they want to leave prostitution, but can’t because they lack basic human services such as a home, job training, health care, counseling and treatment for drug or alcohol addiction.
  • Detention halls are often filled with young females in for such minor crimes as running away or abusing alcohol and drugs, which they often commit to escape being victims of sexual and physical violence at home and abuse by pimps and other predators on the street.

Prostituted women getting out of jail often have no resources & feel their only choice is to return to a life they know or where they are accepted.
